The Künstlerhaus, Austria's oldest and biggest artist association, is a private association which sees itself as a platform for artists and art lovers as well as a voice of its members in matters of cultural policy. Apart from the exhibition hall, the association runs the Künstlerhaus cinema and houses a theatre and a restaurant. Since 1998 the association has been pursuing an exhibition program which focuses on architecture, interdisciplinary thematic shows, international co-operations and member exhibitions. Beside the 2000-square-meter, two-level exhibitions space for major exhibitions, there is one gallery on the ground floor and one in the cinema's foyer, reserved for member exhibitions. A third gallery located next to the subway entrance, is used by young artists as media forum, experimental field and projection screen at live events. In addition to the ongoing exhibition program, the Künstlerhaus offers a comprehensive event program that ranges from discussions and exhibition-related events to international film series and DJ-lines as well as an annual summer party.
