Vienna Stripe

From 1999 unitl 2008 museum in progress has presented the series of exhibitions "Vienna Stripe" – a series of art works on the façade of the Wein & Co shop on the corner of Getreidemarkt/Linke Wienzeile at a central traffic node close to the centre of Vienna. The works were shown in large horizontal glass cases above the shop windows in the form of frieze-type CALSI large format pictures (Getreidemarkt: 1.5 m x 15 m / Linke Wienzeile: 1.5 m x 14 m).

Wein & Co has decided not to use all of its prestigious façade exclusively for advertising purposes and has opened an additional window for contemporary art close to other art locations in Vienna (Secession, Museumsquartier, Kunsthalle Wien, Akademiehof, etc.). The works shown in this dynamic exhibition space were changed two or three times a year.

The presentation of art in a new (urban, media, commercial) context plays with the anonymity of mass-media communication and shows that the dynamics of urban visual perception also offer the chance for more public participation and reflection.

Every "Vienna Stripe" was produced in cooperation with another Viennese Gallery; made possible by Wein & Co.
