Worlds of Work

Film Stills, Work Cinema

Christian Höller curated the tenth billboard exhibition in the course of the exhibition series "Worlds of Work" by museum in progress in cooperation with the Vienna Chamber of Labour. "Arbeit Kino (Work Cinema)" was presented from April – June 2004 in front of the buildings of the Vienna Chamber of Labour (1040 Wien, Prinz Eugenstraße 20–22 and Plößlgasse 13) as well as in the daily newspaper DER STANDARD and on INFOSCREENs in the Vienna subway-system.

"'Arbeit Kino' is an exhibition of photographs from 100 years of cinema history. Photographs in which worlds of work are captured in a wide variety of ways, ranging from early cinema to Hollywood and auteur cinema up to more recent independent film productions. A historical overview which shows the transformation of the image of forms of work and employment conditions: from manual labour to immaterial services, from production line capitalism to the increasingly deregulated globalised economy." (Christian Höller)

With thanks to the following who lent items to the exhibition: Austrian Film Museum (Vienna), Film Archive Austria (Vienna), the Stiftung Deutsche Kinemathek (Berlin), Stadtkino Verleih (Vienna), Polyfilm Verleih (Vienna), Lotus Film (Vienna), the Generali Foundation (Vienna), Concorde Home Entertainment (Munich) and the Trondheim Film Society.
