Comment: "The Deceased" is a series of photographs of (mostly younger) people who perform a "scene" of their own imagined death as if it would have happened in this period of their life. Participants are asked to make use of their fears, phantasms and actual risks. "The Deceased – Archive" is a complementary series of documentary photographs in which the actually dead people are "brought back to life".
The Deceased series explores photography as an elusive visual evidence of intangible and abstract time, referring to some thoughts of Roland Barthes in "Camera Lucida" and his later essays. It further deals with a very notion of death and with the transitory nature of human existence as we know it. On the perceptual level, the work is contextualized by the observer's interpretation – political, emotional, moral, or other.
