During the 100th anniversary year of the Vienna Secession in 1997/1998, ongoing co-operation was begun between the Vienna art institution with a rich tradition and museum in progress. Under the motto of the Secessionists, "Art for the times, and freedom for art", this co-operation is intended to enable the "White Cube" to be extended into media space.
Parallel to the "Cities on the Move" exhibition in the Vienna Secession (26-11-1997 – 18-01-1998), with Hans-Ulrich Obrist and Hou Hanru as curators, and to the series of exhibitions with the same name taking place simultaneously as part of the museum in progress "Billboard" project, works by the artists Navin Rawanchaikul & Rirkrit Tiravanija, Rudi Molacek, Thiehai Zhou and Symrin Gill were also shown in DER STANDARD. The exhibition "Cities on the Move" thereby appeared simultaneously in different forms in museum space and various media.
