Billboard

Beauty

The Cologne-resident artist Rosemarie Trockel was selected for the fifth project in the "Billboard" series of exhibitions for Austrian Airlines and gewista. In her work entitled "Beauty" the artist is concerned with the problematic nature of today's concept of beauty. The twelve computer-processed beauties (eleven women, one man) "should be as beautiful as Nature and the computer allow". The posters could be seen on approximately 3,000 billboards in Vienna from mid-December 1995 for about two months.

The billboard by Rosemarie Trockel was awarded the Gustav Klimt Prize 1996 as one of the best billboards from 1995 in the special category "Original Poster Art" following the proposal of an independent jury. In 1995 Austrian Airlines was awarded first place in the Austrian art sponsoring prize "Maecenas" for the series of exhibitions "Billboard" (since 1991) in the category "Best Art Sponsoring Concept".
