The two works "17th Century – 20th Century" by Ed Ruscha for the "Large Scale Picture" exhibition series were created for the Vienna Festival exhibition "The Shattered Mirror" (26. May – 25. July 1993). Together with museum in progress, the curators of the exhibition, Kasper König and Hans-Ulrich Obrist, worked out the concept for these first two "Large Scale Pictures" which could be seen on the facades of Hall B of the Museumsquartier (10m x 40m) and the Kunsthalle Vienna (10m x 54m). The pictures established a connection between the two exhibition locations. The paintings were especially created by the artist for these locations.
