Statement by Stéphane Ghislain Roussel

Working as a curator, dramaturg and stage director, I had recently the occasion to collaborate with museum in progress in the frame of the exhibition “Opera as the World, the Quest for a Total Work of Art”, which I curated at the Centre Pompidou-Metz. One of the particularly interesting aspects of museum in progress’s dynamics is its hybrid character, both in an inside and an outside, symbolically and practically. To infiltrate a world as institutional as Opera, but also to appear in a public space or on the page of a newspaper. This hybrid dimension seems to me particularly fertile and politically important, because I think that the global “decompartmentalization” of hierarchies – and not the hierarchical globalisation – is one of the few possibilities for creation to find new modes of operation.
