Statement by Katrin Bucher Trantow

museum in progress is a museum without a fixed location, which assembles ideas and pushes them through. The 'power station' founded in 1990 investigates the outside-the-box potential of art production and experience. In cooperation with curators and artists worldwide, the daily newspaper Der Standard, or the Academy of Fine Arts and the Vienna State Opera, it has systematically shown media-relevant works and contemporary documents that surprise, confront the public and reach out to them beyond the showcase limits of conventional art museums. Many of the works reexamine the interaction between the medium and the message and, as manifestos of the age of reproducibility, open up unsuspected areas of artistic activity and reflection, while also seeking a wide audience. Democratic and low-key, the projects are at the pulse of the times.
