Anna Jermolaewa reflects on themes such as uprooting, new beginnings and memory. Her projects often result from experiences of flight, travelling and everyday occurrences. She conceptually explores, reformulates and artistically codes living conditions in the world in a poetic way.
"In people's minds, a huge chequered bag always belongs to someone else - an immigrant who is suddenly forced to pack all his things and leave." (Anna Jermolaewa)
With raising flags 35, we find ourselves in front of a motif that we all recognise: the chequered bag, the quintessential attribute of migrants. For many, this bag is an affordable necessity on their journey into the unknown, which so often becomes a journey without return, just as the wind made visible by the flags knows no return.
The artwork by Anna Jermolaewa is available as a signed and numbered bag flag edition (red, black, blue) in the format 60 x 80 cm. Limited edition of 35 copies each. Orders can be placed at: www.mip.at/en/shop/bag-flag.
