Martin Grandits combines the advertising aesthetics of the 1990s with an ambivalent statement in his flag artwork: “I hate myself – Paris – New York – Bad Gastein”. This self-ironic statement stands in contrast to the lifestyle aesthetic and breaks with the lightness of typical advertising slogans. The third location can be flexibly adjusted depending on the context in which the flag is presented. In the edition, an individual location can also be chosen, allowing the flags to be personalized. This interchangeability plays with the concepts of exclusivity and belonging. Grandits’ work oscillates between critique of consumerism, humour, and melancholy.
The artwork by Martin Grandits is available as a signed and numbered flag edition in the format 80 x 123 cm. Limited edition of 50 copies. The edition is customisable: the third city name can be freely chosen! Orders can be placed at: www.mip.at/en/shop/raising-flags-editions.
