The opera house is a place where scale relationships are thrown off by that fact, the very small figure on stage is able to make a dramatic projection unaided, because of the architectural container, and how that makes the space that surrounds the character part of the experience. I never used to understand why they turned the lights off at the opera, because the space is really a part of it. (Matthew Barney)
